Welcome to Jambin State School
Nestled in the heart of Queensland's Banana Shire, Jambin State School has been a proud part of the local community since opening its doors on 11 February 1929. Led by our first principal, Kate Collins, sixteen students attended that very first day - the start of a long and proud history of learning and connection.
The school began as a high-set, two-room building with a half-enclosed veranda to keep schoolbags out of the weather. As enrolments grew, the space underneath was transformed into a makeshift classroom. Over the years, more permanent additions were made, including a third room, a duplicating room, and a office/staff room. Eventually the understorey was concreted and enclosed on one end, and in 1980, the central stairs were added.
In 1993, we welcomed the addition of the Early Education Centre, followed in 1997 by the relocation of the Greycliffe school building and the construction of a new toilet block. A large shade sail was installed between the buildings in 2001, helping to keep play areas cool, and in 2002, air conditioning was added across the school thanks to fundraising, a gaming grant, and the State Government's "Cooler Schools" initiative.
In 2003, our tuckshop was extended to become the "Echidna Eatery", and another shade sail was added near the oval in 2004 to create more usable outdoor space.
In 2023, the school's multipurpose court was transformed into a shaded, all-weather space with the construction of a large shed roof. This upgrade provides a comfortable area for students to enjoy ball games, sports and other activities - rain, hail or shine. With electricity and lighting added at the end of Term 3 2024, thanks to a generous donation from the P&C, this new space has also become a much-loved spot for community celebrations and school events.
Today, Jambin State School caters to students from Prep to Year 6 and continues to offer a warm, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. With a strong focus on community, wellbeing and academic growth, we're proud to provide our students with the space and support they need to thrive - both inside and outside the classroom.
Our School Structure
Jambin State School is a small, community- focused school with a current enrolment of 33 students (2025). We operate composite classes based on year levels and student numbers.
In 2025, our classes are structured as:
- Prep to Year 2
- Years 3 and 4
- Years 5 and 6
Our teaching team includes a Principle Teacher, a mix of full-time and part-time classroom teachers, and 3 dedicated and invaluable teacher aides. We're also supported by a full time cleaner, and part-time administration officer and grounds person who help keep the school running smoothly.
As with many small schools, our exact class and staff arrangements may vary slightly from year to year, depending on enrolment numbers - but our commitments to providing quality, personalised education never changes.
